About the Dragonfly
In 2012, a group of brave, creative people in Ashland, MA conceived The Dragonfly Festival as a way to bring our community together to celebrate arts! Now in our 4th year, The Dragonfly is a free outdoor event featuring beautiful sights, rich and varied melodies, diverse voices and rhythms mixed with the sounds of excited conversation, shared enjoyment and an ever-expanding host of experiences to captivate people of all ages.
The dragonfly was chosen as our symbol because legend tells us that this colorful insect born in water and emerging into the air to fly represents gliding on the winds of change; the dragonfly encourages us all to go with our dreams and be true to ourselves.
The Dragonfly Festival is a unique blending of local talent, artistic energy and reliance on the community to both produce and support it.
The Dragonfly Festival, the premiere event offered by Arts! Ashland Alliance, gives all who attend a unique summer arts experience and feeds our desire for connection to others along with our cravings for meaningful fun!
Artisans share their processes and display their wares, performers entertain and educate, and people of all ages celebrate with dragonfly themed activities. Fires floating on the water at sundown create an extra special experience.
We hope you’ll to join us. It will make our Festival that much better if you’re there too!
Meet Our Volunteers (Just a Few!)
The Dragonfly moves in all six directions with a sense of agility, power and poise. Dragonflies can move at 45 miles per hour, hover like a helicopter, fly backwards, straight up, down and to either side.
According to mythology, Dragonflies were once dragons and symbolize change in the sense of self-realization, mental & emotional maturity and an understanding of the deeper meanings of life. In China, the Dragonfly is associated with prosperity, harmony and as a good luck charm. For Native Americans, the Dragonfly is a sign of happiness, speed and purity.
